Painting melamine cupboards

Painting melamine cupboards

The kitchen is one of the rooms in which you probably spend a lot of time. That's why it's important that you feel comfortable in it and enjoy its décor.

No doubt, many of you have kitchens with melamine cupboards. It was in fact trendy for a while to replace those 1970s colonial cupboards with melamine units. What's more, melamine is systematically installed in many newly constructed kitchens.

It may be that those white cupboards strike you as monotonous. Or simply that you crave a change. Replacing your melamine is one option. But it may not be affordable. Besides, it's a lot of work. Painting it, however, is easy, if you follow procedures carefully, and it yields a finish that is resistant and durable.

Here's how you do it!

  • Sand the surface you wish to paint
  • Wash with TSP and rinse thoroughly
  • Let dry completely
  • Apply a light coat of Prime Time Alkyd Undercoater 1242-05
  • Apply 2 coats of Revive, Paint Café's urethane based alkyd paint,
    1574-XX

And there you have it!

The process is simple and a great deal less costly than new cupboards. And the finish is washable and very resistant.

Dare! And see how a change of décor in a high-traffic room like the kitchen will do you a lot of good!
