Required tools
-
Textured paper (white paper napkin)
-
Roller and handle
-
Paint tray
-
Paintbrush, 5 cm wide
-
Ruler
-
Level
-
Lead pencil
-
Scissors
-
Pointed artist's paintbrush, 5 mm
Step 1 Preparation
-
Clean the surface thoroughly if necessary
Step 2 The base
-
Roll on a coat of white paint (not necessary if the surface is already white). Let dry for 6 to 8 hours.
Step 3 The texture
-
Divide the surface into 15 cm x 15 cm squares. You can use a level to ensure your lines are parallel and perpendicular.
-
Cut out textured paper squares, 15 cm x 15 cm.
-
To glue the paper squares on the wall, at random or in a chequered pattern, first apply a coat of white paint on the wall. Before the paint dries, apply the paper over the paint and let dry for 6 to 8 hours.
-
Once the textured paper and the paint are dry, use a paintbrush to apply a coat of white paint over the paper. Let dry for 6 to 8 hours.
Step 4 The colour
-
Determine your choice of colour for each square.
-
Mix the Emerald Glaze and the Denim in a plastic container, 3 parts Mascarade, one part Denim.
-
Paint each square in the chosen colour. For a more interesting effect, you can add a second or a third coat of Emerald Glaze and Denim to certain squares, thus varying nuances and colour intensities.
-
Choose the squares on which you may want to paint symbols such as north, south, east, west, flowers, leaves, animals, insects, etc. Use a pencil to draw the symbols ahead of time and make stencils to facilitate your work later.
-
Use a small pointed artist's paintbrush to paint your symbols freehand in Pearlescent Deep Gold.
-
Let dry for 24 hours and varnish the entire surface in Brïo Varnish, Velvet Finish, using a paintbrush and cross strokes. That will give you additional texture.
-
You can wash the surface with a damp cloth and mild soap 7 days after you've applied the varnish.
