Image Aging Technique
This is an easy technique that enhances images and creates unique, sought-after accessories. Give a brand new look to your furniture by decorating a table top, the panels of a kitchen cabinet or by simply adorning a framed picture giving it a natural aged look.
No matter what your project is, the technique remains the same. Whenever possible, work horizontally to prevent paint from running downward. Use spray adhesive to stick the image firmly on furniture or any other surface.
-
Using a synthetic sponge or foam brush, first apply one coat of ILLUSIO BRÏO latex varnish (velvet finish #8565-11). It is recommended to use the velvet finish instead of the gloss finish, as the crackle medium works better on it.
-
Allow to dry.
-
Then, using a long nap roller (13 mm), apply one coat of Crackling, without spreading too much, because the thicker the coat is, the wider the cracks will be. As soon as Crackling is dry to the touch, which takes at least one hour (and a maximum of 4 hours), apply a second coat of varnish, using a long nap roller. Avoid additional application on previously treated surface. The varnish will crack instantly, but the cracks will be hardly visible.
-
Allow to dry 7 days.
-
To give emphasis to the cracks, blend 1 part ILLUSIO ARTIFICE Pearlescent latex paint #8564-76 "Deep Gold" to 1 part MASCARADE Glaze. To obtain a more antique look, blend 5 parts Glaze to 1 part velvet finish latex paint, colour #C223-42 "Cashew".
-
Dip a synthetic sponge lightly into the glaze and wipe the crackled surface lightly to "stain" the cracks naturally. Repeat the process until you obtain the desired contrast.
