Brushed bands (Synthetic sponge)
Create a subtle, sophisticated atmosphere that will wrap your room with peaceful and relaxed ease, combining glamour and elegance in a unique, serene style. See how the effect of iridescent ARTIFICE Pearlescent paint enhances the classic look of horizontal stripes and how neutral tones create a tranquil look for your interiors.
Step 1 Preparation
-
If necessary, use TSP to remove grease from surface for better paint adhesion.
-
Patch all holes and remove all peeling paint.
-
New surfaces that have never been previously painted should be primed with Prime Time Duo Primer sealer/Undercoater 1140-05.
Step 2 Base Colour
-
Using a roller, apply a Paint Café-approved velvet finish latex paint #C119-20 "Summer Linen" on the entire surface, as a base colour.
-
Allow to dry 6 to 8 hours.
-
Be sure to test colours, techniques and textures on a practice board first to obtain your desired effect.
Step 3 Masking
-
This finish is easier to complete if you work in two phases: 1) the first, third and fifth band, then 2) the second, fourth and sixth band.
-
Using a ruler and a pencil, divide your wall into six horizontal bands (stripes).
-
Apply narrow masking tape (for wet paint) on the outside borders of the first, third and fifth bands.
-
Press tape down firmly to prevent paint from running under the edges.
Step 4 Stripes
-
In a plastic container, blend 3 parts MASCARADE glaze to one part Paint Café-approved velvet finish latex paint #C226-12 "Old Cellar".
-
Using a small brush, paint vertical lines freehand, in assorted sizes, across each band. (Be sure to vary the position and width of the freehand lines from the ones in the bands above and below the one you are working on.) Continue until you have created freehand lines on the first, third and fifth bands.
-
Allow to dry 6 to 8 hours.
Step 5 Finishing Texture
-
This last finishing step will shade the bands of vertical stripes and create an attractive variation in surface tones.
-
In a plastic container, blend five parts MASCARADE glaze to one part Paint Café-approved velvet finish latex paint #C121-20 "Silkworm".
-
Using a synthetic sponge, apply a coat of the "Silkworm" tinted glaze on the first, third and fifth bands, in a random, dabbing motion. Remove masking tape and allow to dry 6 to 8 hours.
-
Repeat steps 3, 4 and 5 on the bands that are not yet treated (the second, fourth and sixth band), however, replace the "Silkworm" tinted glaze with a coat of Artifice Pearlescent in Deep Gold #8564-76. The Deep Gold #8564-76 is already semi-transparent and therefore will be applied as is. Apply with sponge, as beside, in a random, dabbing motion.
-
Remove masking tape and allow to dry 6 to 8 hours.
