STONE-LIKE Finish (Natural sea sponge)
This quick and easy application technique results in a dramatic Mediterranean look, with the finishes blending to produce a rich and wonderful texture that adds depth and interest to any room.
Step 1 Preparation
-
If necessary, use TSP to remove grease from surface for better paint adhesion.
-
Patch all holes and remove all peeling paint.
-
For new surfaces that have never been previously painted, prime with Prime Time Duo Primer sealer/Undercoater 1140-05.
Step 2 Base colour
-
Using a roller, apply one coat of gloss finish latex paint #C223-32 "Totem".
-
Allow to dry 6 to 8 hours.
-
Be sure to test colours, techniques and texture on a practice board first to obtain the desired effect.
Step 3 Texture
-
In a paint tray, pour DUNES Suede paint #B223-42 "Terracotta".
-
Lightly dip a natural sea sponge into the suede finish and blot off any excess paint onto the tray.
-
Dab suede finish over the base colour with a light blotting motion and vary the position of the sponge, rotating it to create a random pattern.
-
Repeat this process until the entire surface is covered.
-
Hint: Avoid "over-sponging" the surface, as you will get better results if the second coat reveals the base coat underneath, in an attractive overlapping of contrasting finishes.
